Teammates D'Ana McCarty (Louisville) and Jere' Summers (Louisville) hope to make this year's NCAA Championships a 1-2 sweep. McCarty, the defending NCAA indoor champion has dominated this year. While her win last season was a surprise, a repeat this year is expected. She has won six of her seven meets this year, her only loss coming to Summers in their first competition of the season. She has also surpassed 22 meters in her last four competitions. Summers has also been consistent. Her only losses this year have come to McCarty and she has thrown over 21.50 meters in her last three competitions. Summers is also ranked seventh in the shot put and will have a busy weekend ahead of her. Look for McCarty to win, with Summers as a close second.

Jeneva McCall (Southern Illinois) leads a strong contingent of throwers from Southern Illinois. With four throwers entered in the meet, the Salukis have a chance to score some big points. Unfortunately, many of the throwers have been inconsistent. All are capable of throwing over 20 meters, but only McCall has done so consistently. McCall has only lost one competition this season and is one of the few throwers capable of beeting Summers or McCarty.

Kelsey Hanley (Indiana State) is ranked fourth entering the meet, but has as much momentum as anyone. She threw personal bests in her last three meets and lost by less than a foot to McCall at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships last month. Another thrower to watch is Irene Cooper (Western Michigan). Despite some inconsistent marks early in the year, Cooper has been throwing well lately and another throw of 20.50 meters could place her high. Nikola Lomnicka (Georgia) was one of our upset picks at the start of the season and she has continued to improve throughout the season as she improved her personal best nearly every week. However, she threw just 19.36m at the SEC Championships and will have to return to form quickly to make the finals.

Predicted order of finish: (1) D'Ana McCarty; (2) Jere' Summer; (3) Jeneva McCall; (4) Kelsey Hanley; (5) Irene Cooper; (6) Sasha Leeth; (7) Nikola Lomnicka; (8) Victoria Flowers.
