Here is the Week 1 edition of the NCAA DI Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index for the 2024 season. No marks from previous seasons have been used, which means this objective list is compiled solely of current qualifying marks from the 2024 indoor track & field season. NCAA Division I — Men's Indoor Track & Field This Week's National Top Five 1 Texas Tech 2 Texas 3 Northern Arizona 4 Southern California 5 Kentucky All TFRI Reports NATIONAL TFRI REGIONAL TFRI Texas Tech hit the ground running in 2024 and was rewarded with its first No. 1 indoor ranking since 2019, when it held the top spot for seven consecutive weeks. The Red Raiders have 12 national top-10 marks thus far, including a collegiate-leading mark from Caleb Dean in the 60-meter hurdles of 7.55. Dean has one of seven top-5 marks for Texas Tech and is joined in the top-3 by Don’Dre Swint in the 60 meters (No. 2, 6.54), Shawn Brown in the 60 meters (No. 3, 6.55) and Antoine Andrews in the 60H (No. 3, 7.62). Texas found success at several meets and is ranked second to begin the season. The Longhorns, who finished sixth at the NCAA Championships last year, have nine national top-10 marks in the early going, including a collegiate-leading effort by Yusuf Bizimana in the 800 meters of 1:45.88. Teammate Cole Lindhorst is second in the 800-meter rankings at 1:47.39, while Sam Hurley adds another No. 2 mark for Texas in the high jump at 2.21m (7-3). Northern Arizona is in uncharted territory, as it earns its best Week 1 ranking in program history (The Lumberjacks’ previous high-water mark was No. 5 in 2022). Stop us if you heard this before, but NAU is led by its distance runners. Nico Young is a two-event collegiate leader in both the mile (converted 3:48.71) and the 3000 meters (7:37.73). The Lumberjacks have three athletes ranked among the top-5 performers in the mile thus far: Young at No. 1, Colin Sahlman at No. 3 (3:54.38) and Theo Quax at No. 4 (3:54.49). Southern California welcomes the new season with its best Week 1 ranking since 2020. The Trojans saw William Jones notch a collegiate-leading mark of 45.90 in the 400 meters this past weekend at the Ted Nelson Invitational. Teammate Justin Braun, who is also ranked in the top-10 of the 400 meters at 46.43, is the third-best performer in the 60 meters at 6.55. Kentucky might only have four national top-10 marks, but two of those are collegiate-leading efforts: Luke Brown in the triple jump at 16.80m (55-1½) and Keaton Daniel in the pole vault at 5.80m (19-0¼). Those other two top-10 spots are jointly held by Markevus Jackson and Kennedy Lightner in the 200 meters at 20.49. Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 1: No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Georgia, No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 9 Kansas and No. 10 Illinois. This is the best Week 1 rank in program history for the Cowboys, the Jayhawks as well as the Illini.
