In fact, the Illini put up so many outstanding performances that they’re ranked No. 1 for the first time in program history. You must go all the way back to 2013 for the last time Illinois was ranked in the top-10 at all. The Illini posted nine national top-10 marks so far, including two that reside at No. 2 on the seasonal chart: Darja Sopova in the triple jump at 13.56m (44-6); Tori Thomas in the pole vault at 4.42m (14-6). Arkansas has been a top-3 mainstay in Week 1 dating back to 2016. The Razorbacks, who are ranked second this year, have been among the top-3 teams at this point of the season in eight of the past nine years (Arkansas was No. 11 in 2023). The Razorbacks own eight national top-10 marks, including national-leading efforts by Shawnti Jackson in the 400 meters (52.10) and the 4×400 relay squad, anchored by Jackson, at 3:28.79. Florida is among the top-3 teams in Week 1 for the first time since 2015. The Gators posted seven national top-10 efforts this early in the season, headlined by a collegiate record in the 5000 meters by Parker Valby at 14:56.11. Florida also has two other top-2 efforts thanks to Claire Bryant in the long jump (6.61m/21-8¼) and Grace Stark in the 60-meter hurdles (7.97). Southern California shall be led by its sprinters and hurdlers. The Women of Troy, who begin the season ranked fourth, have seven national top-10 marks – all of which are by those athletes. The best of the bunch for USC is the third-best effort in the 4×400 relay at 3:32.48. Texas A&M has made good use of its new facility. The Aggies, who have yet to compete outside of College Station, are ranked fifth in Week 1 thanks to seven national top-10 marks. Lamara Distin and Joniar Thomas guide Texas A&M with second- and third-ranked billings in the high jump (No. 2, 1.94m/6-4¼) and long jump (No. 3, 6.56m/21-6¼), respectively.
