Albuquerque, N.M. - University of Alabama senior Diondre Batson won the 200-meter dash national title to highlight the Tide's first day at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. "Diondre had a fantastic day," said Alabama head coach Dan Waters. "He broke two school records--one that was held by a gold medalist and one by another Olympian. He had two phenomenal runs. It was always a goal to have him do something special. We made a promise to each other, and he held up to his end of the promise." Batson shattered the school record in the finals of the 200 meters with a time of 20.32, the sixth fastest in NCAA history and the fastest time in the world in 2014. He edged top qualifier Dedric Dukes of Florida, who ran a 20.34 in the first section of the finals. Winning Alabama's first 200-meter indoor national title was the exclamation point at the end of a banner day for the California native. Read the full article at: www.rolltide.com
