Texas A&M to Host Nation's Best Track and Field Athletes On Mondotrack At NCAA Indoor Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 12, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Texas A&M University hosted record-breaking performances at last month's Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships. Now, the university's Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium is poised to become an even bigger stage when it hosts the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13 and 14.

The nation's top Division I collegiate track and field athletes will be competing on the stadium's six-lane, 200-meter Mondo hydraulic banked track system and an eight-lane straightaway, both with Mondotrack surfaces, the same track surface that was used for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Competing on Mondotrack at the Big 12 Championship last month, athletes set meet records in the women's mile and 3,000 meters, and the men's mile, distance medley relay and long jump. In addition, Texas A&M's Porscha Lucas established the fastest time by a collegian this year in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 22.94 seconds.
