Arkansas graduate student-athlete Katie Izzo, an All-American in indoor track and cross country, along with being a member of two national championship teams, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the Razorbacks capturing another women's team title March 13 at the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. Izzo reflects on her disappointing ninth-place finish March 12 in the 5,000 meters, clocking 15:58.38, and how she was able to rebound to place fourth March 13 in the 3,000 in 9:03.85 to join forces with runner-up Lauren Gregory (9:01.67) and fifth-place finisher Abby Gray (9:05.52) to contribute 17 points for Arkansas, clinching the team title. The Razorbacks went on to place third in the 4x400 relay to prevail against Texas A&M by a 68-57 margin and repeat as Division 1 indoor champions, following 2019 at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The combined efforts of the entries in the 800, mile, 3,000 and distance medley relay for Arkansas contributed 45 points to the Razorbacks' championship total. Izzo revisits winning the 2019 NCAA cross country title at the LaVern Gibson course in Terre Haute, Ind., and expresses her gratitude for being able to complete an entire indoor season with every meet at Randal Tyson Track Center this winter. She shares how impressive teammate Krissy Gear was at both the Division 1 indoor final, competing in the mile and the DMR, along with her 21st-place finish March 15 at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Okla., earning All-America honors at both meets. Izzo examines the return of Devin Clark, Maddy Reed and Carina Viljoen to the Arkansas lineup for the outdoor season, and how much the Razorbacks are looking forward to competing against Brigham Young after the Cougars won the indoor DMR and cross country team titles. She also emphasizes her excitement for racing April 2 in the 10,000 meters at the Hayward Premiere in Eugene, Ore., her first career opportunity to compete at Hayward Field. Izzo also speaks about several trips she has made in the past year and her desire to continue traveling during her time at Arkansas, which she will complete this spring with a Master's Degree in Recreation and Sports Management, after graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and transferring to Fayetteville.
