Women’s 60m - Until the SEC championships Florida’s Shayla Sanders looked like a solid favorite for the NCAA title and she was the collegiate leader at 7.17. Mikiah Brisco of LSU won in a pr 7.18 after winning the 60m hurdles title. Because these short races are so fickle I think Shayla is still the favorite but she will have to deal with the progression of Oregon sophomore Hannah Cunliffe. she won the MPSF title in 7.21.

Women’s 200m - Before the season it looked like Kyra Jefferson was a solid favorite but Felicia Brown became one of the top 200m sprinters in the US with her 22.45 victory at the SEC champioships. Junior Jada Martin of LSU has shown continuous improvement and pr’d at the SEC championships. Deejay Stevens and Hannah Cunliffe had a late start to the season for Orego and showed they can contribute on the national level after going 1-2 at the MPSF Championships.

Women’s 400m - Texas senior Courtney Okolo was ready to have a great summer last year but a foot problem for the NCAA meet kept her from the early summer meets. She started well indoors and ran a pr 51.06 at the Big 12 championships. Taylor Ellis-Watson of Arkansas will be right there if Okolo falters. Shamier Little tried to challenge Ellis-Watson at the SEC championships but the world championship 400m hurdle medallist could not catch her.

Women’s 4x400m Relay - Texas has run some tremendous times the last few years when all of their runners have been healthy and have had great depth to help cover some losses. This year all-Americans Ashley Spencer ran out of eligiibilty and Kendell Baisden left to pursue her Olympic dreams and the Longhorns have not missed a beat. Last year USC brought in freshmen and transfer sprinters that are now combining to challenge for relay glory.

Women’s 60m Hurdles - At the start of the season Cindy Ofili of Michigan was a solid favorite but she has not dominated, possibly due to having at late summer at world championships. This development opens the race up to other competitors in their minds. Ofili is still the favorite and she may have run faster if she hadn’t been working so hard to help Michigan win the Big 10 team title. Mikiah Brisco won the SEC title but she has broken 8 like three of her competitors. Sasha Wallace broke 8 at altitude but seems overall to be a better runner this year. Junior Devyne Charlton of Purdue surprised everyone with her 7.97 run
