Arkansas junior Ayden Owens won the men's heptathlon title with 6,211 points, highlighted by a 2:31.55 performance in the 1,000 meters, at the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. Owens became the first heptathlon champion for Arkansas since Kevin Lazas in 2013, rallying from fourth place entering the final event to secure the crown. Owens elevated to the No. 2 collegiate all-time competitor in the 1,000, trailing only former Duke standout Curtis Beach, who boasts the top performance in the event in world indoor heptathlon history at 2:23.63 from the 2012 Division 1 indoor championship meet in Idaho.
